This Week’s Top 4

Hello, everybody! Hope you had an awesome weekend – mine was quite relaxing 🙂 Now let’s start off the week with a few interesting links!

1. I am totally loving the two-toned frosting on these Banana Chocolate Swirl Cupcakes – definitely adds a bit of glam!

2. For some reason, I’m fascinated with interesting takes on caprese this summer. You may recall that I shared a list from Buzzfeed a few weeks ago with almost 40 caprese dishes, and I came across another one that I think is great: Caprese Mac and Cheese!

3. I’m definitely a coffee drinker, but I usually keep it simple with a regular cup of plain, hot coffee. When I do decide I want to try a fancier beverage, I usually just pick something without understanding entirely what it is (machiatto? cappuccino? Who knows…). I figured it was about time to learn the differences between coffee beverages, and this guide from The Kitchn is definitely helpful!

4. I’m really trying to embrace the end of summer, but I just can’t stop thinking about fall! I would love to try making something like this “decorative leaf pie crust” soon.

This Week’s Top 4

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope your weekends have been marvelous so far and that you get to enjoy a nice, relaxing Sunday. Last week’s Top 4 was slightly lengthier than usual, since I announced my soon-to-happen move to Massachusetts. I have nothing to announce this week though, so let’s get to the links!

1. Sadly, I don’t have a waffle iron. Maybe that’s why I’m so fascinated by this list of 23 Things You Can Cook In A Waffle Iron from Listotic. Oh, the possibilities! Number 9 kind of freaks me out though.

2. I’ve had caprese on my mind lately, so I was very pleased when I came across this 37 Delicious Ways To Eat Caprese list from Buzzfeed. I think the best part of this may be the “quote” under #37. Too funny!

3. In my opinion, everything is better when it’s made in a jar, so I’m really into this Banana Bread in a Jar tutorial from Intimate Weddings. The author made them as wedding favors, but I think they’d be a fun idea for any gift-giving occasion!

4. And finally, I love this DIY idea for using a painted drawer as a shelf. So cute!

This Week’s Top 4 + I’m Moving!

Hello, everybody! So you may have noticed a slight lack in posts in the past week. It’s been a bit of a crazy time here lately, since (drum roll please) I’m moving! I’m sure you all know what that entails: lots of packing and preparations, spending time with friends and roommates and making sure I get in some quality DC-time. I have just barely over a week left, and then I’ll be headed back to Massachusetts.

So what does that mean for the blog? Not much will change, but of course, I will no longer be able to share DC-themed posts. I enjoy writing about the activities I like to do and places I like to visit though, so I’ll keep up the same types of posts – they’ll just take place in New England! And of course there will still be lots of food. That, my friends, will never change. 😉 I’m excited to move back to Massachusetts, since I haven’t actually spent much time there since I left for college. Oh the New England-y things I’ll be able to share with you: fall foliage! seafood! adventures in Boston and other nearby cities! I will definitely miss DC though, so it’s going to be a bitter-sweet move.

But for now, let’s get back to the blog. I present you with This Week’s Top 4, and make sure to check back tomorrow for another super yummy recipe. To get you excited, I’ll let you in on a secret: it involves Nutella!

1. Greek yogurt is great, and people are using it in all sorts of recipes now! If you’re a fan of the stuff, you might be interested in this homemade Greek yogurt recipe from DIY Network.

2. People are also finding tons of uses for avocados, and The Huffington Post has compiled a few of them here. I’m definitely intrigued by the avocado pancakes.

3. I love Neil deGrasse Tyson, so it makes me sad that people would write him angry letters. The letters, however, were sent from upset children after Pluto was declared no longer a planet, so this list of letters from Mental Floss is actually pretty hilarious.

4. And finally, I love these DIY Recycled Wine Cork Wine Charms from DIY Inspired. Using seashells is great for summer, too!

This Week’s Top 4

Hello and Happy Monday, everybody! I hope you had a great weekend and that your week is getting off to a wonderful start. Let’s check out This Week’s Top 4, shall we?

1. Even though it makes sense (and I ate a significant amount of black raspberry ice cream in my youth), I never considered that blackberries and black raspberries are two different things. Luckily, Huffington Post explains the differences.

2. I’m lovin’ this “10 Life Hacks You Need To Know For Summer!” video from Grant Thompson – so many helpful tips!

3. I’m a big fan of Thai food, so I was pretty pleased to come across this piece from Cooking Light going over the healthiest and least healthy options at Thai restaurants.

4. And finally: I recently discovered this DIY Moroccan-Style Wall Stencil Tutorial from While They Snooze. I’ve seen similar tutorials on a few different websites, and I always love how the pattern looks in the end.

This Week’s Top 5 + Some Announcements

Happy Sunday, everybody! This week, I have 5 special findings to share with you, as opposed to the normal 4 – oh my! Actually, the amount of items I share each week doesn’t matter to me. It has just worked out so far that I end up with 4 pieces I really want to share. Before we get started though, I’d like to talk about a few things regarding this here blog!

You have probably noticed by now that I’ve been making some upgrades. We now have a new layout to gaze at, and I recently created “Recipes” and “Travels” tabs to make the blog a bit easier to navigate. In the “Travels” section, I’ve also added some notes if I feel it is not clear by the name of the place/landmark what the main attraction is. I wanted to make sure that if there are people who are curious about things to see/do in the DC area, they don’t have to guess what each place is while looking through the list.

I hope you like the updates so far, and I’m sure they’re just the first of many to come! I think these updates are coming at an appropriate time since I noticed that my Jamaican Rice post from yesterday was actually my 50th post! I feel like this is the first big milestone for sundaes & salutations, and I couldn’t believe I didn’t realize beforehand it was about to happen. Although I haven’t been at this for too long, I feel like the blog has already grown and changed a lot, and I’m really excited for it to continue to grow. I want to thank everybody who has been reading along so far and making this such an enjoyable experience!

Now without further ado, let’s get to this week’s top 5!

1. Mental Floss fills us in on “44 Fictional Characters Whose Names You Don’t Know.” For example, did you know the Twitter bird’s first name is Larry? Get it? Larry Bird – ha!

2. I’m a big fan of wine and a big fan of cheese, but do I know much about pairing them? No. If you’re like me, you’ll enjoy taking a look through “Wine and Cheese Pairing 101” from The Roasted Root.

3. Summertime has definitely kicked in, meaning people are showing a little more skin. Michelle Phan is using this time to bust “5 Myths About Cellulite” – an interesting read whether or not it’s a concern of yours.

4. Okay, I can’t get over this. Mental Floss again informs us of a new beauty trend Japan is leading: snail facials. I’d love to know – would you be down for a snail facial? I don’t think I could muster up the courage.

5. And finally, BuzzFeed shares “31 Cool Things To Do With The Apple Logo On Your Mac.” I can’t pick a favorite, but #30 is definitely a cool one!
